East Coast of Mauritius

The east coast of Mauritius is not as popular among tourists as other areas of this paradise island. It is believed that it is rainy and windy here, but this weather is typical only for the period from May to October. The East Coast has the most luxurious hotels in the country, wide beaches and several dive sites. In addition, it is here that the “Hunter’s Grounds” nature reserve is located, where orchids and eucalyptus trees grow, wild boars and monkeys are found. Restaurants, discos and sports activities are also on the East Coast, but all civilization here is exclusively on the territory of hotels. See JIBIN123 for Mauritius customs regulations and visa requirements.

Mauritius East Coast Transport

Buses arrive at Center de Flac from Port Louis, Curepipe, Rose Hill and Mahebourg, where you need to change trains to get to coastal resorts. For example, the bus to Trou d’Eau Douce leaves every half an hour. But there are no buses to the Belle Mar resort: only a taxi will help out (~ 300 MUR).

There is no regular ferry to Ile aux Cerfs: you can get there on one of the private boats that offer their services in abundance in Trou d’Eau Douce. Boats depart every half an hour from 9 am to 4 pm. Le Touessrok’s guests are the luckiest of all, with a free shuttle service.

In addition, almost every hotel in the region can rent a scooter.

Hotels

Most upscale hotels are concentrated around the village of Belle Mare. Tourists who stay there are so cool that they prefer a helicopter transfer to the hotel over a car one (and not at all because of the heavy traffic).

The small resort of Trou d’Eau Douce positions itself quite differently. Here you can find both classy hotels and cheaper places to spend the night (perhaps the only ones on the entire coast). In addition, it is from there that the excursion to the famous “deer island” Ile aux Cerfs starts.

In the largest settlement on the east coast, the town of Center de Flac, excellent markets are periodically held where you can buy souvenirs at a bargain price.
It is on the east coast that the only water park in the whole country (it sounds creepy, but do not forget about the size of Mauritius) is Leisure Village.

Beaches on the east coast of Mauritius

Trou d’Eau Douce has a post office, a convenience store, a small gas station, scooter rentals and plenty of places to eat and sleep cheaply. On the outskirts of the resort is one of the most luxurious hotel complexes on the coast, Le Touessrok 5 *. And just 15 minutes by regular boat (or 5 minutes by speedboat) is one of the most popular sightseeing and diving routes in the country, Ile aux Cerfs.

“Deer Island” Ile Aux Cerfs is a real gift for lovers of diving and water skiing. There are two restaurants and many water entertainment centers in the bays with crystal clear water. Once this island attracted the attention of surfers, but today, having become the No. 1 destination for day trips, the number of people on its beaches, Ile aux Cerfs, scared away the brave “wave conquerors”. Most of the island today belongs to the Le Touessrok hotel, so all local water sports centers, as well as an 18-hole golf course, are primarily reserved for hotel guests.

Belle Mare is a 10-kilometer strip of chic sandy beach that has managed to collect the best hotels in Mauritius. The entire infrastructure here is concentrated on the territory of hotels, behind the gates of which you can hardly find two or three decent restaurants to have a bite to eat. Prices in Belle Mare are much higher than the average on the island.

Diving on the east coast of Mauritius

A real parade of colorful fish can be seen in La Passe de Belle Mare. There are about five dive sites, which also often have sharks. Further south, opposite the Trou d’Eau Douce resort, is another site, the Passe de Trou d’Eau Douce. It is not as spectacular, but it is well suited for drift diving.
