Tokelau
That of New Zealand -based Tokelau is located in the South Pacific, about 500 km in the north of Samoa. Tokelau is made up of the three atolls Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo, which reach just five meters in their highest elevations. Tokelau is therefore acutely endangered by global warming.

Tokelau can be described as the most secluded place in the world. Anyone looking for absolute peace and quiet or who would like to take a break from the hectic pace of everyday life is in good hands here. However, getting there is not that easy. Tokelau has neither an airport nor a port. However, it is possible to reach the atolls by boat after a 26 to 30 hour journey from Samoa. Mobility in the country is also very limited, as there are hardly any cars.

The population of Tokelau is not just big. A total of about 1,400 people live on Tokelau. These are spread over three villages, which are located on the different islands that belong to Tokelau.
In the course of history, a language of its own developed on the atolls. So all residents speak Tokelau today. Some have mastered a few words and phrases in English. Most of them are the residents who come into contact with the tourists or are employed in the relevant industries.
Since there are no natural resources in the entire island area and due to the geographical isolation there is hardly any trade with foreign countries, Tokelau’s economic development is very limited.
When it comes to agriculture, too, Tokelau is kept to a minimum. The Tokelau farmers produce just enough that the population can live from it and their own needs are covered.
Therefore, more and more residents are leaving and looking for their fortune, especially in New Zealand.

On the atoll Atafu include virtually all residents to Congregational Christian Church of Samoa. On Nukunonu, as well as all residents, are Catholics. The people of Fakaofo belong to both religions. For more information about the continent of Oceania, please check eningbo.info.
