Kiribati Military

Kiribati is a country located in the central Pacific Ocean. With a population of over 117,000 people, it is the smallest nation in terms of population in the region. Kiribati is a parliamentary republic and its military consists of three branches: the Kiribati Defence Force (KDF), Kiribati Police Force (KPF) and Maritime Surveillance Unit (MSU). The KDF are responsible for defending the country’s borders and sovereignty, as well as providing security to its citizens. In terms of defense spending, Kiribati spends approximately $2 million annually on its military making it one of the lowest defense spending nations in the Pacific Ocean. The country also participates in several United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions such as those in East Timor and Solomon Islands.
