Brunei Military

Brunei is a small, oil-rich nation located on the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It has a population of over 434,000 and a total area of 5,765 square kilometers. The country is governed as an absolute monarchy and is known for its high standard of living. Brunei’s military consists of three branches: the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), the Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF), and the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF). The RBAF is responsible for defending the country’s sovereignty, while the RBLF and RBAirF are responsible for providing security within Brunei’s borders. In terms of defense spending, Brunei spends approximately $1 billion annually on its military. This makes it one of the highest defense spending nations per capita in Southeast Asia. The defense includes (2008) 7,000 men enlisted with 700 men in reserve and is organized into 3 battalions with 6 patrol boats and 23 armed helicopters. Half-military security forces amount to 2,000 men, including 2 battalions of cucumber soldiers. The material is mainly of British origin.
